The ESPN Collegiate Esports Championship was the first of its kind, housing the championships of five game titles’ 2019 competitive season under a single LAN event. Players from hundreds of colleges throughout North America competed in a series of qualifiers, with 20 different universities qualifying for single, or multiple event championships. Leading up to the event, 6 ESPN broadcasted episodes of the ‘Collegiate Esports Championship Countdown’ were produced and broadcasted every Friday leading up to the Championship weekend, May 9th – 12th. Over the course of that three-day Championship event at Comicpalooza, over 50,000 Comicpalooza attendees stopped by and over 1 Million viewers watched on Twitch.
